Introduction to an Interview with Dr. Benjamin Boswell
The Interview Follows at 8:45
At 8:45 this morning you can view an interview with Rev. Dr. Benjamin Boswell. Although this interview occurred on January 29th, it is as relevant now as it was earlier. Boswell is interviewed by Greg Jarrell, author of Our Trespasses: White Churches and the Taking of American Neighborhoods published by Fortress Press, and Dick Hester, author of the to be published this summer by Cascade Theological Education in a New Key: Narrative, Belonging, Diversity. In this interview Boswell describes how fascism in Germany in the 1930s adopted strategies learned from racist practices in the U.S. He also described with great sensitivity the challenge Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde faced as she confronted President Trump in the National Cathedral service the day of his inauguration. Other themes in the interview include Jesus' prophetic challenge of the privileged class and his compassion toward the poor, forms of resistance to the present administration--including the power of poetry and songs. This is the first of two interviews. The second one will be posted next Friday, May 2nd.
